With Queen Letizia and King Felipe visiting the UK for three days, it was widely hoped that we would get to see Kate and Letizia attending at least one function together – and tonight we got our wish. Kate, William and Harry all attended the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the visiting Spanish royals.
The glittering State Banquet was a formal way of celebrating the official visit of a foreign sovereign, dignitary, or representative. They are one of the most formal events in the royal calendar, requiring lots of bling and ball gowns!
Photos of these events are extremely limited, but we did catch a small glimpse at Kate. She wore a beautiful blush lace ballgown from Marchesa. The dress features a deep-V in the front and back necklines and puffy, flared sleeves.
Kate borrowed a number of crown jewels for the event, most notably the CambridgeLover’s Knot tiara. To accompany the tiara, the Duchess wore the Collingwood Pearl and Diamond Earrings (more information on those is available from our friend at The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor!) and the Ruby and Diamond Floral Bandeau necklace. All of these items were on loan from the Queen.
The Duchess of Cambridge looked every inch a princess! We loved the gown, jewels, and glamour (and any excuse to see Kate in a tiara!).
