The rolling, normally quiet countryside of Berkshire came alive today as the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister, Pippa Middleton, wed James Matthews in a highly-anticipated, private ceremony. (Feature image via @saadsalman719 on Twitter)
Pippa arrived at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield with her father, Michael Middleton, shortly after 11:15 AM BST looking absolutely radiant. After months of speculation about which designer the bride would choose, she stepped into the English sunshine in an elegant, lace-covered gown by British designer Giles Deacon. The ivory creation featured cap sleeves, a high neckline and a bodice with a heart-shaped detail at the back.
According to the Daily Mail, the bespoke silk cotton lace was hand appliqued to create the impression of having no seams.
An absolute vision in ivory lace, Pippa wore a handcrafted veil by Stephen Jones and a tiara by Maidenhair Fern. On her feet she wore ivory satin “Seneca” Manolo Blahniks.
In a scene reminiscent of the day Kate married William in 2011, the Duchess tended to Pippa’s gown and veil, walking behind the bride as Pippa had done.
The Duchess chose an Alexander McQueen gown for her sister’s wedding (a choice reminiscent of her own wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen). According to Harper’s Bazaar, Kate’s dress was understated pale pink and ankle-length, and featured billowing sleeves and a deep v-neck. Paired with a matching fascinator by Jane Taylor, this was an exquisite choice for Kate as she looked elegant and lovely while not taking attention away from her sister on her big day. She finished her look with her Gianvito Rossi suede pumps and diamond earrings by Kiki McDonough.
With pageboy Prince George and bridesmaid Princess Charlotte in tow, Kate certainly had her hands full and was seen uttering “shhh!” before entering the church with her children.
This was clearly a very joyous event for the Middleton family, with Kate and Pippa, their brother and parents beaming both before and after the ceremony.
It was a royal affair, with William and Harry in attendance along with Princess Eugenie and her boyfriend Jack Brooksbank.
Following the ceremony, Pippa Middleton (now Pippa Matthews) and her new husband headed to the first reception at Englefield House.
A second reception will follow at the Middleton home, and we will have full details, so stay tuned!
