Back in April, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a creamy tan colored pashmina on her tour of India and Bhutan. Fingers were flying off the keyboards to identify the classic, versatile piece, which was quickly credited as Flora Garment’s embroidered stole. After selling out numerous times (hooray for the Kate Effect!), the piece has been rereleased and renamed “The Kate,” just in time for the holiday season.
The scarf is the definition of high-quality. It is possibly the softest scarf I have ever felt, and this is due to the luxury quality materials used. Each Flora Garment stole is made from “the feathery neck and chest wool of the “Chyangra” (Capra Hircus), the Himalayan mountain goat.” Yes, the fluffy chest hairs of a rare goat. If that isn’t posh, I don’t know what is.
Flora Garments kindly sent us an embroidered stole similar to The Kate so we could give you the full scoop. The ultra-soft, ultra-lightweight pashmina is a beautiful, lifelong investment piece.
An up-close picture is the only way I can show you the softness of the weave, the exquisite embroidery, and the lightness of the fabric. My scarf is in a brown tone, similar to this one but with different colored embroidery. It conveniently matches by Zara biker jeans perfectly, and I often pair the jeans and pashmina with a cozy knit jumper from J. Crew and Sebago boat shoes. I hope you’ll pardon the wrinkles and fluff, but I love this scarf so much that it has gotten plenty of wear!
The scarf is hand woven and hand embroidered by skilled artisans in Kashmir, India. The ethical fashion label is dedicated to preserving and reinventing traditional items, such as the luxurious Pashmina, in an fast-fashion world. It is no wonder the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear this scarf – it supports historical traditions and future commerce of Indian culture simultaneously.
If you’re pondering practical Christmas gifts with Kate in mind, this is a fabulous option. Ethical, versatile, luxurious, and classic – a piece that will last for many royal christmases to come. Check out The Kate embroidered stole here.
