On Day One of their Royal Tour of India and Bhutan, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a star-studded gala at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai.
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel elaborated decorated their ballroom with red uplighting, beautiful floral displays, and intricate design details. A gourmet dinner was served during the evening, featuring cultural cuisine.
The event was attended by the biggest stars in Bollywood, including Aishwaryia Ray and Shah Rukh Khan. A red carpet was rolled out for the stars, who arrived in gorgeous Indian dresses and designer gowns.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a bespoke sapphire blue gown by Jenny Packham. Kate’s dress featured a flowing train and heavily beaded matching shawl-style cape. The intricate beading on the dress was sewn in India. The gown has some similarities to the anarkali style of Indian dresses.
For accessories, Catherine wore statement earrings from India-based designer Amrapali. She also wore a pair of what is widely believed to be Prada heels. She also carried a matching blue beaded clutch, which is likely also by Jenny Packham.
The event was a wonderful way to meet the stars of Indian culture. After spending the morning with children, visiting the slums, and meeting local members of the community, the glamorous event was a stark but fascinating contrast of India’s culture.
Tonight, the Duke and Duchess will get some much needed rest ahead of Day Two! Stay tuned for more updates!
