The Royal Tour India/Bhutan has started!
William and Kate arrived in Mumbai, India 2o minutes early on a British Airways flight from London. There motorcade made its way to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, where throngs of visitors awaited their arrival. They have traveled with an entourage of 11 that will accompany them on their weeklong trip. According to the Mirror, the couple are spending the night at the hotel but chose not to stay in the 15-room Presidential Suite where Obama stayed in 2010, which is also called the Tata Suite, and have instead opted for a more modest suite for them and members of their 11-strong entourage.
Kate chose a bespoke version of an Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2016 dress for the arrival, which was perfect in red and bright colors and a paisley pattern. The dress (non-bespoke, of course) will be available for purchase later this year. She paired it with LK Bennett Fern nude leather heels and gold earrings.
After arriving at the hotel, the couple paid tribute to those who had lost their lives in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks by laying a wreath.
After a private lunch, the Duke and Duchess travelled to the Oval Maidan cricket grounds to partake in a little cricket. They were accompanied by a very large presence of security. Kate took to the sport as naturally as she does most others we have seen her partake in.
Kate also changed into a dress by a local designer for the afternoon part of their visit – a gorgeous flowing dress by local Mumbai designer Anita Dongre. She paired it with earrings we’d not seen before, Ray Ban sunglasses and £45 nude color Monsoon Fleur wedges.
While at the cricket grounds, the couple began visiting local charities, including Door Step School who shared this photo:
They also took an open-top bus tour of Mumbai with children from local charity Apnalya, Kensington Royal shared this photo:
Last on their agenda before the big charity event this evening with glitz and glamour, they visited the Bhangara Water tank. They were greeted with garlands on arrival and cast petals into the water, in another photo shared by Kensington Palace.
We expect the Bollywood gala this evening to get started at at 9am EST (6am PST/630pm in Mumbai/3pm BST). A separate post will come for all that glitz and glamour!
