Welcome to another edition of Keeping up with the Cambridges! Here is what our favourite Duchess was up to this week.
This Week in Engagements
The trio is back together! On Monday, March 15th, we saw Prince Harry, Prince William and Duchess Catherine gather together to celebrate Commonwealth Day with the Queen at Westminster Abbey. The service celebrates the unity shared by the fifty-plus commonwealth nations overseen by Her Majesty.
The service included over 1,000 schoolchildren, and featured a performance by Ellie Goulding and a short speech by Dr. Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations. There was also a beautiful processional of all the flags of commonwealth nations.
We have all the details on the event here, including what she wore – a grey bespoke coat by Erdem, accessorized with a John Boyd hat, Emmy London clutch, Asprey earrings, and Rupert Sanderson shoes.
This week, the Duchess of Cambridge also completed her last public engagement before leaving for the Royal Tour of India and Bhutan, commencing April 10th. Kate visited the EACH Norfolk Charity Shop where she helped open the store and acted as the first customer in the shop. Kate met with charity shop staff, EACH staff and volunteers, and local families who benefit from EACH’s services.
We have all the details of the events here, including what she wore – her M Missoni blue tweed coat, Zara cornflower blue dress, new Prada pumps (with thanks to @MiddletonMaven for the ID!), Stuart Weitzman “Muse” clutch, Cartier watch, and sapphire earrings.
There were some great photographs of the event, with Kate easily smiling and laughing in the shop as she browsed. She selected a Fireman Sam book, presumably for Prince George, and a Beatrix Potter figurine, which would look lovely in Charlotte’s nursery.
This Week in News
Two stories featuring Kate emerged this week: one about her non-attendance at St. Patrick’s Day events in London, and the other as a result of a release of a promotional clip of the ITV interview for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Kate did not attend events for St. Patrick’s Day this year, with William opting to instead. We wrote our opinion on why she may not be joining but not everyone agreed that the Duchess should have missed out on these events. The likelihood is we will see her at future events, especially given the Palace’s comments on Kate doing so!
On to the interview Kate did for ITV’s upcoming documentary, the Queen at 90. Here is a clip of Kate’s interview, if you have not yet seen it.
We also *finally* got a glimpse of the Alexander McQueen dress Kate wore while attending the Diplomatic Reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace in November 2015 during the documentary.
I think we all swooned a little over the Lover’s Knot Tiara coupled with the formal dress. In the interview, Kate revealed that George calls the Queen “gan-gan” and her fondness towards the monarch. We can’t wait to see the entirety of the interview, which will air on Easter Sunday in the UK. Kate wore her Rebecca Taylor suit on camera.
This week also saw the launch of the Emma Bridgewater and Tusk Trust charity collaboration. As Kate has collaborated with Emma in the past, and Tusk Trust is a charity close to William’s heart, it is undoubtedly not a surprise as to why a few pieces from this collaboration could pique Kate’s interest and maybe make their way into her home.
We will not see Kate in action – publicly, anyway – until the Royal Tour commences on April 10th. Stay tuned for all the updates on our Royal Tour page!
