Its the most wonderful time of the year! Hot cups of tea, cozy fires, and comforting roast dinners at the local pub. The holidays are followed by those wonderful winter months of chilly days and snow flurries.
The best way to enjoy this time of year is with a high-quality winter coat. Even on the coldest days of January, the Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted walking Lupo, playing with George, or doing some holiday shopping. Her secret? An amazing coat collection! Kate keeps warm in cozy coats whether she’s playing with the pooch or performing official duties. Here are some of our favorite styles:
Quilted, waxes, weatherproof, and functional – these aren’t the cutest coats in the world, but they do the job! Kate loves a good utility jacket, whether her classic quilted coat or her waxes Barbour. Other royals, such as Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, favor the puffer-style, such as Moncler’s classic winter-proof jackets. These are a wardrobe staple – they protect you from the cold, windy days.
Kate loves a good shearling coat – two of her most-worn coats are the LK Bennett “Darwin” coat and the Temperley “Odele” coat. Shearling, whether you choose real or faux, retains heat and keeps you warm in the coldest of conditions. Choosing a modern cut will keep the look fresh.
The Duchess of Cambridge works a great cape. She has a very chic Zara plaid cape, but also favors knit shawls and ponchos. These are great options for cooler days where you need an extra layer over a chunky wool jumper. I find they aren’t the warmest option, but make a fabulous fashion statement with an extra bit of warmth.
For official royal engagements (or work meetings, fancy parties, and date night), a more formal coat is required. Kate often chooses high-collared coats, which eliminates the need for a scarf. She loves pastels, plaids and tartans, or classic colors like navy and burgundy. Keeping a simple, classic cut is key!
