The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined China’s President Xi and his wife, Madame Peng, for a cultural event at Lancaster House. The event was a part of the President’s State Visit.
The Duke, Duchess, President, and First Lady joined actors and cultural characters at Lancaster House. They toured a few exhibitions from iconic British shows, such as Doctor Who, and enjoyed a few performances. It was a very fun event – it isn’t often you see Jackie Chan in the same room as a Dalek!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoy a friendly relationship with President Xi and Madame Peng. William went on an official tour of China earlier this year, although Kate was too far into her pregnancy to join him.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a purple lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana. The dress features a high-neck collar, which some have noted is similar to a mandarin collar. This may be another nod to China’s culture.
She paired the look with new Gianvito Rossi pumps and a new burgundy Mulberry clutch. For jewels, Kate opted for her Mappin & Webb “Empress” earrings. The look was very formal, but very respectful to the President and his wife.
Kate debuted two new – and very high end – designers for today’s event. This may be explained by the importance of the event – hosting President Xi and Madame Peng is a very special royal duty. Wearing more formal, high end items shows that their visit is worthy of a special frock. It could also be a glimpse of things to come – more high end, less high street. What do you think?
Overall, it was another very exciting event – especially following last night’s State Banquet! William and Kate are proving to be truly a dynamic duo when hosting some of the world’s most influential dignitaries
