The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a baby girl at 8:43 AM BST on May 2nd, 2015. The Duke of Cambridge was by her side during the birth and was obviously beaming with pride every time we saw him today. The new Princess of Cambridge weighs 8 pounds, 3 ounces. Here are all the details of how it all (quickly) happened!
MAY 2, 2015 | 18:25 BT Our little Princess is safely inside Kensington Palace Apartment 1A! Everyone take a nap! Much more to come (Names! Photos! Reaction!) shortly.
MAY 2, 2015 | 18:15 BT William, Kate and the newly born Princess of Cambridge have left the Lindo Wing after a short photo call. We were blown away by how amazing Kate looked mere hours after giving birth wearing a bespoke Jenny Packham dress.
MAY 2, 2015 | 17:33 BT Kensington Palace has released the following short statement via Twitter:
“Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge will be leaving St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington this evening. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their daughter will travel home to Kensington Palace. Prince George has now returned to Kensington Palace. Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have received. They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the little princess are expected to leave St. Mary’s around 6:30-7 PM.
MAY 2, 2015 | 16:25 BT Can we all just issue a collective “AWWWWWW”?! William just returned to the Lindo Wing with Prince George, who looked dapper as ever in a matching ensemble to William. George was every ounce the Prince as he waved to the assembled press and simultaneously melted hearts around the world. We are now waiting for confirmation on if/when the family of four will leave the Hospital, but we are expecting it to be this evening with William holding George and Kate holding the little Princess of Cambridge. If the past is any indication, they left at 1800 BST for George’s birth so it may be very very soon.
MAY 2, 2015 | 16:00 BT Prince William left the Lindo Wing to, as he informed eager media, “pick up” Prince George. We are expecting to see William and George return to the Hospital very soon and then see the family of four leave the Hospital this evening.
MAY 2, 2015 | 15:30 BT Confirmed that Prince William will leave the Lindo Wing shortly to visit Prince George. Expected to leave at 4pm BST (8 am PST/11am EST) and while we have confirmed he will return to the Hospital, it is unclear if he will return with Prince George or not. Also no official confirmation of if we will see the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess of Cambridge at this point, but looking likely at this point.
MAY 2, 2015 | 14:05 BT Amid countless congratulatory notes being shared for the newly born Princess of Cambridge, we heard from Kensington Palace’s Press that there had been no announcements made about the couple leaving the hospital today or if there would be any visitors. They confirmed that press would get a 30 minute notice in advance of William & Kate leaving the Hospital.
MAY 2, 2015 | 13:05 BT Amanda Cook Tucker, Kate’s hairdresser has been seen entering the St. Mary’s Hospital implying very strongly that we will see the Cambridge family leave the hospital today.
MAY 2, 2015 | 11:10 BT The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a girl at 8:43 AM. The Duke of Cambridge was by her side. The new princess weighs 8 pounds, 3 ounces. Her birth was announced by town cryer shortly following the official announcement by Kensington Palace. The official birth announcement was displayed outside Buckingham Palace at 12:30 BT. The sign is a historical tradition. It will be displayed for 24 hours.
MAY 2, 2015 | 10:35 BT St. Mary’s Hospital released the following statement via Twitter: “St Mary’s Hospital has admitted Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge to its Lindo Wing. The [NHS] Trust is extremely proud that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen to have their baby at one of our hospitals. All our staff wish them well during this happy occasion.”
MAY 2, 2015 | 9:15 BT According to The Daily Mail, Michael and Carole Middleton are also at Kensington Palace. They are with nanny Maria and Prince George awaiting updates on Catherine and the baby. Early this morning, Her Majesty and the Prince of Wales were informed of the royal baby news. They are – of course – being kept updated.
MAY 2, 2015 | 8:29 BT Prince George is at home at Kensington Palace with his nanny, Maria Borrallo. It is still unconfirmed if he will visit his new little sibling at the hospital. If he does visit St. Mary’s, we believe nanny Maria will accompany him.
MAY 2, 2015 | 7:46 BT Kensington Palace has released a short statement. The Duchess of Cambridge is “progressing normally.” Press officers from Kensington Palace are present at the Lindo Wing. International news agencies, photographers, and reporters have gathered outside the Lindo Wing to begin their live coverage.
MAY 2, 2015 | 6:51 BT Police officers have arrived at St Mary’s Hospital following Kate’s admission to the Lindo Wing. The officers will stand guard at the entrances until Their Royal Highnesses – all of them – have left the building.
MAY 2, 2015 | 6:39 BT The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington in the early stages of labor. Her Royal Highness is progressing normally. She arrived shortly after 6:00 AM and travelled by car. Upon her safe arrival into the Lindo Wing, the press was alerted and began their coverage of the royal baby’s arrival. This is very different from George’s arrival. To reduce the mania, Kensington Palace has only invited accredited and pre-approved media sources to report from outside the Lindo Wing. Security for the birth of the second royal baby began on April 14. Parking restrictions, security gates, and barricades were set up for the press. This is standard procedure for royal births. Many will remember the barricades and parking suspensions from the birth of Prince George. Information released earlier this month in regards to the second royal baby is as follows: WWKD will report on the Duchess and her child as the news comes available.
