The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited south London today to carry out three engagements. This was the last official engagement before Kate begins maternity leave for Royal Baby #2.
Their first visit was to the Stephen Lawrence Centre. The centre is a community hub for research, learning, and training. It is home of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, which hopes to inspire and motivate young people.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were greeted by Baroness Doreen Lawrence. The Baroness is the mother of Stephen Lawrence, who was tragically murdered in 1993 and for whom the charity is named and dedicated.
Their Royal Highnesses met with staff and volunteers before touring the facility. They stopped by the Harris Academy law workshop in the lecture room. They also viewed architectural work by local artists.
After receiving a beautiful posy, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to XLP, a charitable organization that “work[s] to create positive futures for young people.” They work with inner-city youth throughout London’s boroughs.
During their visit, they met with staff, volunteers, and locals who benefit from the charity. They were treated to a performance by by young people from the XLP Arts project at Christ Church, Gypsy Hill.
Their Royal Highnesses met with the children and adolescents who spend time at XLP learning, socializing, and creating their own positive futures.
William and Catherine toured the XLP bus, a moving recording studio used by many locals in the community. They spoke with the youth who work with the bus about how the XLP program has improved their daily lives.
On today’s engagements, William noted that it was “not long now” until another royal baby arrives! We also learned that Kate loves shepherd’s pie (sometimes called cottage pie), which is rumored to be William’s favorite.
The Duchess of Cambridge looked radiant in a pink coat by Mulberry. We first saw the coat earlier in her pregnancy during the visit to New York City.
Many have noted on the fit of the coat – namely, it still fits! I believe that the coat was originally a boxy/trapeze shape, allowing Kate to “grow” into it over the last few months. Today, it fit beautifully!
The Duchess accessorized with her Stuart Weitzman “Power” pumps and Mulberry clutch – a combination we have seen very often lately!
For jewels, Kate chose her new Kiki McDonough pink morganite earrings. They are such a lovely compliment to many outfits, especially this pink coat!
Today was a wonderful day for William and Kate – we always love to see them together! They did a wonderful job highlighting the important works of London’s inner-city charities. This was Kate’s final official engagement before maternity leave, which means the next time we see William and Kate together will be on the steps of the Lindo Wing!
