The Duchess of Cambridge ventured to Islington today to celebrate the UK’s foster care program. The Fostering Network is one of Britain’s leading foster care charities.
While the Duchess of Cambridge is not a patron of The Fostering Network, she is patron of many charities supporting youth and at-risk youth. Today’s royal engagement will bring much-needed attention to foster care in the United Kingdom.
Lucy Peake, director of development at The Fostering Network, said: “A visit from The Duchess helps to shine a spotlight on fostering and the need for more foster carers, particularly to look after teenagers, disabled children and groups of brothers and sisters. We are very grateful to her for her interest, and know that the foster carers and care leavers attending our event today are excited to be sharing their experiences and stories with her.”
The Fostering Network helps shape policies and laws to support foster carers and families. They work with 400 fostering services and 50,000+ foster carers to care for children and young adults. Today, the Duchess of Cambridge met with social workers, foster carers, care leavers, and members of the charity to discuss the work done by The Fostering Network.
The Duchess spoke with families and children. She heard stories of the immense difference a positive experience in foster care can make in a child’s life.
According to Rebecca English from the Daily Mail, Kate “took a shine to fostered baby Naya today, calling her ‘sweetie pie’ and saying she was ‘chubbier than George'”
Kate also attended a miniature tea party, complete with cookies, sandwiches, and tea, which allowed her to meet and chat with more representatives from the charity and foster care families.
Kate looked very lovely and professional in her Hobbs animal print shirt dress. We have seen her wear the dress twice before during her pregnancy – first in Wales, and again on Christmas day.
The dress is still available in some sizes online and in stores. The ultra-flattering cut and silk fabric make a great addition to a repliKaters closet!
The Duchess accessorised with black tights and her black suede Stuart Weitzman for Russell and Bromley “Power” pumps. The pumps are available at Russell and Bromley and from Stuart Weitzman retailers.
She also carried her Mulberry clutch in black suede, quickly becoming a signature item for Her Royal Highness!
Kate wore a new pair of earrings today. They featured three gold hammered rings in a chandelier style. Some same the earrings are by Felt London, while others think they may be by Mirabelle. Because of the simple, classic design of the earrings, we wouldn’t expect a confirmed ID from either brand.
Today’s event was a wonderful spotlight for an often overlooked cause. We hope to see Kate embracing more charities for children and at-risk youth in the future – maybe even adopting The Fostering Network as a royal patronage!
