With all of the rules and regulations regarding etiquette that I have presented in the past few months, I wanted to pause and reflect on why I find etiquette important and how it allows me to demonstrate my inner duchess on a daily basis.
One of the main reasons I find myself so drawn to Kate Middleton is not because of her perfect, shiny hair or ridiculously fabulous dress collection but her ability to display grace in every situation she faces. Whether she is attending a family wedding or a royal engagement, she has impeccable etiquette. This is a characteristic that I wish to emulate in my everyday life so I dedicate myself to learning as much about etiquette as I can and that includes understanding its significance.
There are countless reasons why etiquette is important but I have selected a few that I find essential for following in the footsteps of the lovely Kate.
Using proper etiquette shows that you respect the time and company of those around you.
Our lives have become incredibly busy, which means that our time has now become incredibly valuable. Using proper etiquette, whether you’re on a coffee date or meeting Her Majesty, demonstrates that you are being intentional with the time of those around you.
It allows you to create meaningful connections in a brief amount of time.
Showing proper etiquette and respect, even when meeting someone for a brief period of time, creates a deep connection rooted in respect. When you are well-mannered, people see right to your kind, inner duchess.
Etiquette aides in cross-cultural communication.
It is so tricky to travel to another country and adjust to their customs and traditions. Luckily, most rules of etiquette and respect are universal, and employing them in cross-cultural situations creates instant understanding.
Etiquette provides you with the opportunity to act and be treated like royalty every single day.
As mentioned previously, one of Kate’s most notable qualities is her exemplary etiquette. She commands respect by simply walking into a room and you can follow in her footsteps. When you give respect and etiquette, you get respect back.
While some may see etiquette as a stuffy, old artifact of the past, I think it has just as much, if not more, significance today than it did centuries ago. Embracing etiquette is just one way to live like Kate in your everyday life.
