While many of us are shivering in our wellies, Team WWKD is dreaming of beach weather! We are ecstatic to finally, after two years, share with you the style and designer of Kate’s nearly-infamous honeymoon bikini.
In April 2011, William and Kate departed on a 10-day honeymoon in the Seychelles Islands. However, the paparazzi could not be kept at bay. A keen cameraman (or woman!) managed to snap photographs of the newly married couple on the beach. Pictures of the trip were not published until 2012, when they were released by Australia’s Women’s Day. The “exclusive” photographs featured William and Kate enjoying their honeymoon like a normal couple would. Royal watchers searched and searched for the suit ever since, with little result.
We were so excited to learn that Kate’s bikini top was finally found! Kate’s black bandeau-style suit with metal detail is by Australian beachwear designer Seafolly. The suit was part of their 2009 Goddess collection. It featured a ruched bandeau top, halter tie from the center, and gold metal detail. The metal detail featured four circles in the center with a teardrop shape on the top and bottom. The shape, size, and placement of the metal details is almost exact. The top was released in black and white. The top was available with numerous matching bottoms, with the most likely option seen above.
Seafolly is sold in numerous stores in London, including John Lewis. The suit was available in stores in 2009 and 2010. It is very likely Kate (while still Miss Middleton!) purchased the suit in store on one of her frequent trips to John Lewis or Peter Jones. The brand can also be found online at ASOS, where the Duchess has been known to shop.
We cannot take credit for this incredible ID. The lovely Ashley Marie came to us with the top, and after contacting Seafolly on Facebook and studying the pictures of the suits very closely there was no doubt. Due to the low quality photograph and color enhancements made by the magazine, you may notice some slight variations but we are confident that this is the exact suit. Ashley is something of an ID “expert,” often locating hard-to-find items Kate has worn, both past and recent. Ashley can be found chatting on WKW’s Facebook page or on Twitter. She deserves a serious congratulations for such an amazing find!
Its worth noting that we don’t believe Kate bought the suit specifically for her honeymoon, unless she had serious foresight! The suit would have been sold out or hard to find by the time her engagement was announced. Its nice to think that she took a much-loved suit on her glamorous honeymoon, rather than buying one for such a special occassion!
The suit has since sold out, but Ashley found this fantastic repliKate suit from the name brand. The style, color, details and cut are incredibly similar! This would be perfect for your mid-winter escape to Mustique.
If that doesn’t work for you, check out these other repliKate tops and bottoms for your next day at the beach. We are all dreaming of Mustique this time of year, fighting the bitter cold with visions of beaches, yachts, and bikinis.
