Who could deny that Kate loves her coats? Many an engagement has been spent wrapped in a chic winter coat, while many an onlooker has snapped the Duchess of Cambridge casually warm in a jacket.
We love coats – they make an outfit look instantly chic. When Spring rolls around, I honestly have no idea how to get dressed without topping an outfit with a jacket. A boring t-shirt and jeans becomes stylish with the addition of flat boots and a cute coat. It is so easy and effortless, and that is exactly the appeal Kate sees in them. Kate once told a shop assistant that she often wears coats on engagements because everyone loves them, and no one cares what is underneath. (Ha-ha, joke is on you Kate! We totally care what is underneath!)
London weather is notoriously not-pretty (although we think its beautiful…), so a coat is an absolute staple. That’s why Kate – and many other stylish Londoners – own about a zillion of them. If you wear one everyday, nine months out of the year, you really want a variety of options.
We might not have official engagements to attend, but we do have places to wear coats. The grocery store, your in-laws, lunch with a girlfriend, holiday fetes, shopping sprees, walks in the park, date night, or work events – there’s a different coat and a different style for each of these events. So, while you might not have a need for a zillion, you might want to have more than one. Y’know, the one covered in dog hair. That you haven’t had dry cleaned maybe ever. Yeah, that’s not what Kate would do!
