On Friday, our contributor Emma published a really fantastic article on how to dress for your long-haul flights – all inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfits. There was a style to suit everyone, from prissy old me to an edgier rockstar. She aimed for ensembles for your long haul flights – such as her recent flight to Thailand, or my upcoming flight to London.
Not all of us are lucky enough to take transcontinental flights as often as Kate or the WWKD team, and sometimes we need a cute outfit for a weekend holiday, a long drive to Grandma’s house, or a quick flight from state to state. You aren’t as worried about being comfortable as you curl up in your two-by-two foot box for the next dozen hours, since you might be in a car – where you can stop to stretch your legs – or on a quick flight that won’t require as much discomfort.
One of my favorite casual outfits on Kate is her ensemble in Brisbane Airport after the Southeast Asia tour. It was amazingly chic, realistically casual and looked comfy enough for the 22-hour flight she was embarking on. For us normal human beings, this is the perfect outfit for those short travelling trips.
I own three of these Tippi sweaters from J.Crew ($80). They are perfect for any season – lightwear for the summer and easy to layer in the winter!
Jeggings are a girl’s best friend. I love that they are in style. GAP has a great pair (Kate is reportedly a fan!) that feel like pajamas. ($70)
While Kate may survive the trip in her LKB’s, we think flats – like the Felicia flats from Sam Edelman ($90) – are a bit more our style!
And don’t forget the perfect carry-on. We could not live without our Longchamp bag! ($125)
The real style in this outfit comes from the fabulous scarf. Choose something bold and beautiful, like this one from Nordstrom ($38), to complete the look.
