Today in Southampton was the Princess Cruise’s naming ceremony for the “Royal Princess” ship to whom Kate is Godmother. As any Godmother would do, she was on board to give her well wishes and blessings. The long standing tradition for female Royals dates back to the 19th century, and Kate’s late mother-in-law Princess Diana performed the duty in the very same spot in 1984.
Kate was a breath of fresh air as she opted for a dalmatian print overcoat from retailer Hobbs, a custom hat by Lock & Co (similar to their Salsa hat), Episode “Angel” pumps, an Alexander McQueen “Wicca” bag, and her Annoushka pearl earrings. Before cutting the rope and smashing a bottle of bubbly to cheers from the crowd, The Duchess of Cambridge spoke the words:
“I name this ship Royal Princess. May God bless her and all who sail in her.”
The ceremony concluded with a tour of the ship where Kate apparently asked many questions, telling crew members that she had never been on a cruise before. Now that she is Godmother, I am sure she can hop on board anytime she likes!
