WWKD sat down with our favorite source for RepliKates, Emma from Replikate Me!
We collaborated to bring you this EXCLUSIVE Replicate ensemble!
Perhaps I should start by saying who I am and how Replikate Me was born! I am Emma Poole, an employment lawyer from Wales and have always loved clothes! Ever since I donned my Dad’s cricket jumper aged 6 (which reached my knees) to try and emulate the style of my babysitter Charlotte, I’ve been replicating looks that I’ve seen at a fraction of the original price…although I’m pleased to say Dad’s wardrobe has remained untouched since then!
Whilst on maternity leave, I plodded the streets buggy in hand attempting to get my little baby to sleep, while also gaining some normality for me as. My routine as a first time Mummy seemed incredibly new but the shops were my haven! I couldn’t help but notice how many replikates were there and how their ranges had been hugely influenced by the fashion choices Kate made. Unfortunately for me with my post baby figure and maternity allowance, I wasn’t going to be able to indulge in my shopping habit quite as enthusiastically as I would have; however, friends and family were always asking me to keep an eye out for particular things, even my grandmother wanted to replikate some of Kate’s Beulah outfits! With all the publicity about the “Kate Effect” and the general desire for a bargain, I realized that there may be some way that I could form a business.
I’m often asked “why Kate?” and whether I will create further apps following the trends of other celebrities. I’ve always loved her style and I think Kate has a manner which we could do with emulating. Her clothes choices are quite demure, stylish and ladylike and that is reflected in the way she has conducted herself through various moments in the spotlight, such as her split from William in 2007 and the photo scandal whilst on tour in 2012. I also think the people who have timeless elegance in their clothes choices are the ones that we really remember (I’m thinking Grace Kelly, Jackie Onassis, Princess Diana) and I think Kate is one of them. Other celebrities don’t seem to share that “grace under fire” that Kate has – it’s generally “tell all” when it comes to their lives and “show all” when it comes to their clothes. I think it would be hard to follow anyone else with as much enthusiasm. I think it is that beauty of attitude that WWKD celebrates and I am a huge fan of that.
Now that I am doing more legal work and have a toddler in tow (so less shopping time – sob!) (we are sobbing too!), I am looking to find some fellow Replikaters to contribute to the posts. I have a number of fashion students who I hope will become regular contributors and I would love it if any of the WWKD readers would like to get in touch with their finds for us to feature. If anyone would like to become a regular contributor, please contact me through the Replikate Me Facebook page or by email at email@example.com
