I did it – I finally found a job! It was so exciting to get a great opportunity doing something I really enjoy. When I accepted my job offer, the first thing that popped into my head was “what will I wear?!” That question was quickly followed by “what would Kate wear?” I just couldn’t bear the drab office attire, or what was deemed “office attire” by my peers. I quickly consulted my favorite of Catherine’s outfits, and used them as inspiration.
On Monday, I wanted something that could be seen as dressy casual AND business professional. This outfit would be walking a fine line. Since I didn’t know the office atmosphere, I wanted something that could simultaneously say “this is my casual outfit” as well as “I’m ready to meet the CEO.” For this, I went out in search of a classic sweater dress. Catherine’s turtleneck dress seems so warm and cozy, but mine had a v-neck with a folded collar. Both looks convey professional yet comfortable.
For a more professional atmosphere, I wanted to stick with classic pieces that has a stylish and Kate-like twist. I absolutely loved Kate’s look from California. The ensemble looks sweet, ladylike, and conservative. I paired a classic a-line skirt in a winter cream with a lace trimmed navy blouse. Classic navy pumps kept my legs looking long, and I added a beige sweater to keep me warm.
I couldn’t get enough of the Prabal Gurung dress when the Duchess of Cambridge wore in on the 2012 Southeast Asian Royal Tour. The gorgeous print, fun colors, and classic lines were a hit! For this look, I wanted to tone down the bold print for the conservative atmosphere I work in. Adding a belt and some wedges perfected this look for me!
As it gets later in the week, my outfits tend to get more casual. As if preparing for Friday’s truly casual dress, I like to stroll into “Casual Friday.” I love this look – it feels so London to me. While Kate added a blazer, I felt dressy enough without one. Make sure you feel comfortable with the length of your skirt! By 5 P.M., this one was feeling quite short.
Ah, Friday. Is there anything better? Casual Fridays allow me to get really cute and creative with my outfits, and I was SO looking forward to rocking this ensemble into the office. Luckily, my office is very casual on Fridays and less conservative, so the pink jeans are acceptable. Paired with a classic blazer and fun scarf, I felt like a true member of the Glosse Posse!
I love my Kate-inspired outfits, and whip up new ones every morning! Going to work is fun when you love the way you look, and I have extra confidence knowing I look a little bit like the future Queen of England.
