While most of us enjoy their Christmas Day warm and cozy by the fire (or with one on TV) dressed in Christmas pyjamas, Christmas Day is yet another working day for the Royal Family. While Kate and William will be spending this Christmas with the Middleton family, we can speculate about what Christmas would be like if she were a guest at Sandringham… Can’t we?
Kate and other Royal Women will need up to 5 outfits to wear for different events during the day- Kate confirmed this to a guest at an event prior to Christmas last year. You’d better believe that Christmas Eve is a busy day preparing all those clothes as first thing in the morning, the Royal family make the trek to private church services at Sandringham. Not a chance you could get away with pyjamas on this occasion…
Grazia reported that there is a full Royal Christmas routine and rules to be followed:
Royal etiquette expert Jean Broke-Smith told us about the’Kate will need a casual outfit for breakfast, a smart outfit – and a hat – for the morning church service, a dress for lunch, a cocktail dress for early evening drinks and a full-length dress for the evening meal. The golden rule is nothing too short, too revealing or too gaudy.’
While we devastatingly never seem to see pictures of the private cocktail dress or evening meal dress, we do get a chance to see some coat action. Heading to the private services in the morning will require one outfit and then the much more public and media attended walk around Sandringham Village later in the day require yet another. Looking back to last year (the first Kate was invited) we can see that she obviously got the dress code shared with her as all of the women are wearing similar long coats and high-heeled boots.
The next time we see the Royals is as they head to the Village services and last year Kate shined, as per usual. I really like the half-up, half-down hairdo that she had going on under the perfect for the occasion hat by Jane Corbett.
So while I carefully plot out the one change of clothes I have to do on Christmas Day (change into something nice for family dinner) I’m going to consider myself immensely lucky that it’s not 5… and there’s only my family paparazzi…
Happy Christmas Eve everyone!
