It’s no secret that I love clothes; I love to look at them, comment on them, buy them and wear them. When I was pregnant for the first 8 months, I kept up that love affair, often wearing 4″ stilettos into a meeting and refusing any assistance – I even helped move boxes in an office move. When that last month of pregnancy came up on the horizon, my poor little self just gave up on trying to look nice. Hello Lululemon yoga pants and shoes with orthotics that would have made my grandma proud! Was I doomed to be unfashionable, unstylish and gasp– comfortably dressed-now that I was double gasp someone’s mother?
I’m happy to report that that has not been the case- although I did have to have a stylist come in and help me get out of the yoga pants- and I’m back to being a stylish member of society again, which really should have not been a surprise to me given my love of clothes. That same love of clothes is also what made one of the most touching baby shower presents I received. It was not the most expensive, the most useful or even the most practical- it was a small pink book.
The small book in question is a book I was given called This Little Piggy Went to Prada: Nursery Rhymes for the Blahnik Brigade. What makes this book unique is that it features some of the world’s most timeless children’s rhymes, but turns them haute couture by throwing labels like Prada, Manolo Blahnik and Gucci into the rhymes themselves. Here’s an example:
One of the scariest things about being pregnant (other than the health of your unborn child, obviously) is the realization that your entire life is going to change immeasurably once this tiny little person is placed into your arms. As I mentioned above for me, I wondered if that meant forgoing my skinny jeans for mom jeans or my high-heels for flats. I’m sure Kate will be no different in wondering what her life will be like after she’s had the little Prince/Princess. Although her position in life does require her to be dressed to the nines and her style is impeccable, she’d probably appreciate a little humour in throwing her favorite brands into nursery rhymes for Baby Cambridge when she’s not slept for several days and wishes she could be back into her stunning wardrobe once again.
