In light of Hurricane Sandy currently roaring towards the East Coast of the United States and the steady pouring of rain which is a constant on the West Coast, I thought there was no more appropriate time to discuss a historically non-fashionable subject: rain attire.
Kate, living in rainy London, is no stranger to rainy days. She’s been photographed in the rain many times (So many times we made a Pinterest board about Rainy Day Kate) and always manages to look put together and not flustering and blowing all around like I tend to do.
One of the first things you’ll need when preparing for the rain is a great pair of rain boots. Kate’s been seen numerous times out and about in her Le Chameau boots which are a classic green color- but also weigh in at a whopping $490! The price sounds quite steep, but the boots are a classic and if you like the outdoors as Kate does, you might find yourself happy to have spent the money on the boots.
For most people, $500 for a pair of rain boots might not be possible in the budgeting. If you’re looking for a pair of boots in a slightly more affordable prince point, check out Hunter wellies– the favorite brand of British Royals like HM the Queen for decades. These boots range anywhere from $125 and up- and you can even find them on eBay for cheaper once you know your sizing.
Be like Kate and buy a pair in a solid, traditional color like blue, black or green and you’ll be able to wear your boots for rainy seasons to come.
Kate is also always photographed with an umbrella to protect her famous locks as soon as rain appears on the horizon. I don’t blame her in the least, with all those photographers lurking around! Kate has been seen to use Royal family favorite Fulton brand umbrellas, such as the transparent birdcage umbrella from the War Horse premiere which has also been used by both the Queen herself as well as Camilla. Fulton Umbrellas state that they “…hold a Royal Warrant to Her Majesty The Queen, and previously to Her Majesty The Queen Mother” so are likely to be the brand used by Kate and the rest of the Royal Family. Kate has also shown off a beautiful red umbrella which is by luxury brand Swaine Adeney Brigg which matched her red Alexander McQueen outfit. You can even select silk and get your initials carved into those umbrellas!
Be like Kate and buy solid, well made umbrellas that will stand up to the winds that generally accompany rainfalls- there is nothing worse than remembering to bring your umbrella but it blowing up inside out and becoming drenched. If you’re going to buy one umbrella, do make it a solid black one for the most versatility. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to have a handsome Prince as your umbrella carrier.
And lastly, you’ll need a good coat to protect your beautiful dress underneath. Kate, being a good member of the British Royal Family, has tended to favour Burberry coats in the past and for good reason- they’re well known to be sturdy, well built and fashionable. The coats are on the pricier side with Kate’s retailing for £650.
Be like Kate and invest in a well-made trench coat in classic tan with timeless details. If you’re not in the market to be able to spend Kate money on a coat, you can check out many other brands who offer cheaper alternatives. You can also check out a Burberry outlet store as they quite often have very plain tan trench coats for reasonable prices. They won’t be the double breasted fancier styles, but will get you into the brand at a good price point.
So now that we’ve seen how Kate stays dry, I will take this opportunity to wish everyone on the East Coast the very best and to stay safe during Hurricane Sandy. I hope that you and your families stay warm and dry and out of harm’s way.
